Easter Beer FAQs

It might sound made up but Easter beer is actually a thing. See, back in the day, the really dedicated monks of Bavaria would fast for the entire 40 days and 40 nights of lent. They couldn’t eat anything during this time. But they could drink. And everyone drank beer back then as it was less likely to give you nasty bugs like dysentery than water was (delightful).

So the monks needed a beer that was thicker and more “nourishing” than normal beer to keep them full and feeling less hungry. They were almost like liquid bread. But thankfully, Easter beers brewed today taste much better and have more variety than the Easter beers of ye olde times.

In fact, Easter beer isn’t a particular style of beer anymore. Some opt for full-bodied beers to have at the table. Others might want a low-alcohol version.

Lamb is the traditional meat to serve on Easter Sunday. The rich meat flavour pairs really well with a bright, hoppy IPA beer for a really out-of-this-world flavour combo.

But if your Easter dinner consists solely of chocolate eggs, we’ve got you covered. Check out our handy beer and chocolate pairing guide.

It’s not a real holiday unless Uncle Greg has had one too
many before lunch is served. And your dad is chatting about the flavour profiles of craft beer with your cousin who you haven’t seen in approximately a million years (maybe).

Here are our fave beers for drinking at Easter. And there’s something for everyone.

Gamma Ray - If you love that craft beer flavour, give your tastebuds a little zap with this APA. It’s got all that delicious down-to-Earth west coast-inspired flavour with a little Beavertown twist.

Satellite - We’re big advocates for a long, spring afternoon spent sipping on a few beers. But sometimes you don’t want the alcohol content to be too high. We get it – overdoing it in front of your great aunt isn’t always a great idea. But that’s why this low alcohol IPA exists. You get all that heavyweight IPA flavour wrapped up with lightweight alcohol content. So sip away!

Spresso - Coffee after dinner? Don’t mind if we do. Spresso is an ink black coffee stout made using chocolate malt and midnight oil coffee concentrate. The perfect post-dinner treat to sip on.

Lazer Crush - This alcohol free IPA is the perfect, laser sharp Sunday sipper. Great for those who have to drive the spaceship home later. Or just don’t want the alcohol. It’s light on the booze but heavy on the flavour. With bags of sweet orange zestiness and grapefruit bitterness.
