Senior Brewer – Beaverworld, Enfield


This role will report into our Lead Brewer. The Senior Brewer will join our Production team and will often act as the main point of contact on the brewery floor. You will supervise the day to day operation of the fully automated 150hl brewhouse assisting our Junior and Production Brewers.

You will act as an ambassador for Beavertown and be confident working with minimal supervision and be able to quickly solve problems and think on your feet. The role will involve managing and coordinating on-going training and support with brewery team members.


  • Support the Lead Brewer to ensure the brewing and cellaring team can perform all daily duties
  • Support the Lead Brewer in managing the team by supervising and training Production and Junior Brewers
  • Perform all ‘shift leading’ tasks and be responsible for an assigned Production area (brewhouse, cellar or filtration) of a fully automated Brewery
  • Responsible for projects relating to optimising brewhouse/cellar processes, efficiencies and automation
  • Support the Lead Brewer in procedural development and optimisation
  • Maintain up to date systems and records (including but not limited to BOTEC, SAP and full Microsoft Office package excel/SharePoint/teams/PowerApps)
  • Assist the Lead Brewer and Production Planning Manager in raw material management
  • Ensure SOPs are up to date and being followed by all employees
  • Verify that beer fermentation and conditioning proceeds as expected
  • Verify that beers are in spec for packaging and assist the Lead Brewer in ensuring all beer meets target specs
  • Ensure cleaning is performed to schedule. Carry out hygiene work, ensuring the brewery is kept clean
    • Provide cover as a team 24 hours per day, 7 days week including bank holidays (e.g. Christmas); Brewing Ops (Brewhouse) at Beaverworld
    • You will often the most senior person on site
    • Knowledge of all relevant Brewing-Packaging-Quality-Ops KPIs and implementation of tasks to ensure teams are aware and on a right track to facilitate them
    • Report on Brewing KPIs to LB/HB, precise and on time
    • Organise and attend all relevant meetings, WPM, Daily Brewing, MBM, Planning meetings
    • Ensure all products and processes meet relevant Food Hygiene standards
    • Ensure raw materials and supplies are ready and available to facilitate work
    • To operate in line with SALSA, BRC and ISO 9000 Quality systems with specific reference to quality, complaints and non-conformances
    • Ensure that the quality of beer leaving Beavertown Brewery is excellent at all times
    • Increasing your understanding of the art and science of brewing through study and investigation. All Brewers should be working towards their IBD certificate or equivalent
    • Demonstrate the ‘Beavertown Way’ to visitors and clients through knowledge, enthusiasm and hospitality




When needed, support and carry out daily brewhouse duties, including:


  • Operate a fully automated 150hl brewhouse
  • Responsible for all aspects of wort production
  • Mill operation and malt preparation
  • Brewhouse CIPs
  • Enter all necessary data into Botec/SAP and other relevant programmes
  • Assist brewers during shift overlaps
  • Ensure brewing teams are carrying out their tasks
  • Perform basic quality checks. Phys-Chem checks, yeast counts and yeast viability
  • Ensure correct use, storage and stock level management of relevant raw materials (malt, hops, dry yeast, salts etc)


When needed, support and carry out daily Cellaring duties, including:


  • Operate a fully automated cellar (including ability to run centrifuge and filter)
  • Measure tank CO2s/DOs – Carbonating beers as required
  • Ensure beer is in spec for packaging dates
  • Yeasting /hopping off vessels as required
  • Carry out Yeast counts and viabilities to ensure we have yeast availability for pitching
  • Yeast management
  • Carry out Vessel cleans (CIPs)
  • Operate automated Dry-Hopping procedure
  • Transferring beers
  • Monitor fermentation, ensuring Fermentation profiles are adhered to
  • Perform basic quality checks. Phys-Chem checks, yeast counts and yeast viability



  • We are looking for someone who has a minimum of 3 years’ brewing experience
  • IBD Diploma in Brewing, Brewing MSc, Food Science or Chemical Engineering degree or equivalent (desirable)
  • A thorough understanding of the brewing process, equipment and techniques
  • Confident supervising a team and questioning the way things are done
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to plan-ahead and manage multiple tasks
  • Knowledge of mechanical and electrical engineering
  • Familiar with laboratory equipment and methods
  • Strong communication and influencing skills
  • Positive and committed attitude, with a flexible approach to work hours
